ARIOCARPUS

Very sought after species by many collectors, Ariocarpus are rare slow-growing plants.

The geographical distribution of the genus Ariocarpus is mainly in Mexico in the states of Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Durango, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas and Texas in the U.S.

They live mainly in the ground, generally composed of fine clay particles, sand and gravel. The mimicry is perfect, but beautiful flowers in shimmering colors make them highly visible and vulnerable.

To defend themselves against herbivores they contain toxic and bitter alkaloids.

IN CULTURE:

In nurseries they are generally found grafted. On their own roots, their cultivation is more delicate and requires careful handling : a soil mainly mineral, limited watering during the hotter months, winter minimum temperature of + / - 7° and a total drought are conditions for a successful growing.
