The genus Eriosyce encompassed the genera Neochilea, Neoporteria, Chileorebutia, Horridocactus, Pyrrhocactus, Thelocephala. It became thus a very large genus, in which most of sizes, forms and colors are represented. The geographical distribution of the genus extends from the center to northern Chile and Peru. Their habitats, mountains, valleys and coastal regions
