The Matucana are a genus with + / - 18 very interesting species.
The globular plants become columnar with age, zygomorphic flowers in the colors red, orange and yellow, specially adapted to the long beak of hummingbirds are really beautiful.
The geographical distribution of the genus is Peru (Amazonas, Ancash, Cajamarca, Huancabamba, Huanuco, La Libertad.)
Their habitats are the plains bordering the Rio Maranon and plateaus of the Andes.
CULTIVATION: Without major problem it requires an acid soil, bright light and ventilation for a generous bloom. In winter these plants tolerate quite low temperatures + / - 7 and of course a total drought is recommended.
